![]() ![]() Affinity has some good tutorials of their own on vimeo but they are advanced features and nothing really caters to the beginnger. ![]() I took a leap because it seems everyone is charging for tutorials for the new Affinity app. ![]() Overall this is one of the first times I’ve actually felt frustrated in a purchase from the app store. There was a bit of fumbling through some of the options which gave me the overall impress that the person I was not learning from a professional. I got the feeling when watching the videos that they were not particularly planned as another review has stated. I feel that a begginner could open the affinity application and learn just as much if not more by simply noodling through each tool or menu for about the same amount of time as the videos. 3-4 minutes each, walks the viewer through a very simple process such as adjusting levels or white balance. I have not used affinity at all so I was hoping this would open some doors for me or perhaps teach some of the basic vocabulary. This tutorial is very clearly directed toward beginners and I was clear in that before purchasing it. Secondly, out of fairness, I should say that I am not 100% new to using photo editing apps, but for all intents and purposes, based on my skilll level and very minimal knowledge of the vocabulary used within photoshop and comparable programs, I consider myself a beginner. Firstly I want to say that I feel almost guilty for leaving a 2 star review on anythng another person worked on. ![]()

For Kinsey, there were no “homosexuals” or, for that matter, “heterosexuals” – only men or women engaged in sexual acts which were labeled the one or the other. Each point delineated a very imprecise distinction between those engaged in exclusive heterosexual to exclusive homosexual acts and – as with any bell-curve - with the greatest segments of the population falling somewhere in between. ![]() Kinsey’s scale was based on the reported sexual practices of his subjects, men and women. In line with his entomological notion of individual variation, he revised the conventional tri-part model of human sexuality – i.e., heterosexual, homosexual and bisexual - into a seven-point range (from zero to six) or heterosexual-to-homosexual rating scale. ” He stressed that laws “penalize all homosexual activity, all sexual contact with animals and they specifically limit the techniques of marital intercourse.” Going further, he reminds his readers that “all intercourse outside of marriage (non-marital intercourse) is illicit and subject to penalty by statute law …. Specifically, English-American legal codes restrict the sexual activity of the unmarried male by characterizing all pre-martial, extra-marital, and post-marital intercourse as rape, statutory rape, fornication, adultery, prostitution, association with a prostitute, incest, delinquency, a contribution to delinquency, assault and battery, or public indecency – all of which are offenses with penalties attached. His studies provide not only an invaluable snapshot of pre- and post-War sexual practice, but insight into the deeper historical forces that were restructuring modern American sexuality.Ĭonfronting the dominant sexual standards head-on, Kinsey paints a grim picture of the official sexual culture of the period: By presenting the findings from a database drawn from detailed sexual histories of a relatively large sample, Kinsey sought to make it impossible to deny the full range - or “individual variation,” as he referred to it - of sexual practices engaged in by (white) men and women. He sought to apply a research model that he had pioneered as a noted entomologist to the study of American sexuality. With the notable exception of the indulgences of farmhands, little seems to have changed over the last half-century other than the acceptance of the obvious. The numbers spoke for themselves: 70 percent of men had visited prostitutes 40 percent of married men were “unfaithful” to their wives 37 percent of men (and 19 percent of women) had had at least one homosexual contact and one farmhand in six had sexually experimented with an animal. When the first volume on male sexuality was published, his findings precipitated a near crisis of social conscious. His twin studies of sexuality - Sexual Behavior of Human Male(1948) and Sexual Behavior of Human Female (1953) – were based on approximately 18,000 interviews conducted between 1938-1953 and represent a landmark in not only empirical research, but moral philosophy as well. ![]() Kinsey was a tenured professor at Indiana University and author of two pioneering works, The Gall Wasp Genus Cynips: A Study in the Origin of Species (1930) and The Origin of Higher Categories in Cynips (1936). It’s now 75 years after his first study appeared and its findings remains threatening. His findings are widely accepted today, even though some fret over his statistical methodology. Few remember just how shocked, shocked!, mainstream America of the post-War era was by Alfred Kinsey’s revelations about male – and, in time, female - sexuality. ![]() ![]() Step 2: Get a New Bed Rail that Matches the current rail. This way, you will have extra space whenever you make the bed. Therefore, the wooden side rails, commonly referred to as bed rails, need to be two to three inches longer than the mattress. For instance, a twin mattress is usually 39 inches wide by 75 inches long, a California king is 84 inches long, and a queen- or king-size mattress is 80 inches long. In addition to measuring the rail box frame, you will also need to measure your mattress length. So you will need to know the width, length, and thickness of the side bed rails. On the other hand, the width is measured from the left edge to the far right edge of the rail. The length of a rail is measured from the top edge of the rail to the bottom edge of the rail. Usually, it would be best to use a measuring tape (or an online ruler) starting from one side rails. The very first step will be to measure the dimensions of your current rail frame if you want to replace damaged rails. Let’s get started and look at the basic steps you need to follow when you want to make bed rails with hooks to hold head and foot boards. Usually, the rails are part of the design of the bed and are understated or exaggerated depending on your taste. Typically bed rails are used as support to keep the bed frame strong and rigid while preventing the mattress from slipping off your bed. Let’s dive in! On the front-end, it’s my architectural framework of choice as it’s both mature, relatively lightweight and can be easily tested using third-party toolkits such as Jasmine or QUnit. ![]() What is Backbone.jsīackbone.js is one of the many Javascript frameworks for creating MVC-like web applications which comes with a default template engine Underscore.js. Backbone.js lets us split our code into Model, Collection and View. The general idea is to organize an interface into logical views, backed by models, each of which can be updated independently when the model changes, without having to redraw the page. To resolve this problem, there are many MV* frameworks available for us. ![]() ![]() The auger uses a rotating helical screw similar to the Archimedean screw-shaped bit that is common today. The bit is interchangeable as bits wear down. The brace, on the upper half, is where the user holds and turns it and on the lower part is the bit. It is a type of hand crank drill that consists of two parts as seen in the picture. ![]() It is uncertain when the brace and bit was invented however, the earliest picture found so far dates from the 15th century. The auger allowed for more torque for larger holes. ![]() While the pump-drill and the bow-drill were used in Western Civilization to bore smaller holes for a larger part of human history, the auger was used to drill larger holes starting sometime between Roman and Medieval ages. This completely separates the inner stone or wood from the rest, allowing the drill to pulverize less material to create a similarly sized hole. This allowed a hole to be drilled while only actually grinding the outer section of it. The hollow-borer tip, first used around the 13th century, consisted of a stick with a tubular shaped piece of metal on the end, such as copper. It consists of a vertical spindle aligned by a piece of horizontal wood and a flywheel to maintain accuracy and momentum. The pump drill was invented during Roman times. The core drill was developed in ancient Egypt by 3000 BC. Over the years many slight variations of bow and strap drills have developed for the various uses of either boring through materials or lighting fires. The usage of bow-drills was widely spread through Europe, Africa, Asia, and North America, during ancient times and is still used today. The earliest evidence of these tools being used in Egypt dates back to around 2500 BCE. There are hieroglyphs depicting Egyptian carpenters and bead makers in a tomb at Thebes using bow-drills. Archaeologists discovered a Neolithic grave yard in Mehrgarh, Pakistan, dating from the time of the Harappans, around 7,500–9,000 years ago, containing nine adult bodies with a total of eleven teeth that had been drilled. Mainly used to create fire, bow-drills were also used in ancient woodwork, stonework, and dentistry. It was discovered that tying a cord around a stick, and then attaching the ends of the string to the ends of a stick (a bow), allowed a user to drill quicker and more efficiently. Anatomy of a pistol-grip corded drill.īow drill (strap-drill) are the first machine drills, as they convert a back and forth motion to a rotary motion, and they can be traced back to around 10,000 years ago. The earliest perforated artifacts, such as bone, ivory, shells, and antlers found, are from the Upper Paleolithic era. This was used by many ancient civilizations around the world including the Mayans. This led to the hand drill, a smooth stick, that was sometimes attached to flint point, and was rubbed between the palms. This would have rudimentarily consisted of a pointed rock being spun between the hands to bore a hole through another material. Nylon absorbs far less water than bristle, and polyester filaments are impervious to water, so they are better suited for waterborne paints. So the brush industry has followed the lead of women by getting rid of its split ends.Īlso, the water in latex paints causes natural bristle to soften and swell, which makes the brush lose its shape and become soft. Latex paints dry faster than oil-based products, quickly clogging up those once-valuable flagged tips and inhibiting smooth release. Synthetic filaments proved to be an acceptable alternative to natural bristle however, decades later, with today’s low VOC water-based paints, frizzy ends have become a liability. DuPont responded by incorporating two unique China bristle attributes into their nylon synthetic filament: its wonderful split ends and its tapered shape (larger at the bottom and thinner at the tip). Navy commissioned DuPont to develop a synthetic substitute for Chinese hog bristle. ![]() ![]() The industry searched for alternatives, but substitutes such as Indonesian bristle or horsehair did not do the job the way China bristle always had. When the supply lines for China bristle were interrupted during World War II, the painting industry nearly slowed to a halt. Furthermore, the multitude of small hairs at the tip of each bristle create a finer, smoother finish. The virtue of Chinese hog bristle is a natural splitting at the end called “flagging,” which helps the brush hold paint more effectively than other natural animal bristles. Women may consider them a curse in their own hair, but the split ends from Chinese hogs were the benchmark of quality paintbrush filament for well over 100 years. Different brushes are required for the job.Īdvancements in Brush Filament Technology But the brushes used successfully for decades with alkyd and oil-based paints aren’t suited to the waterborne paints that now dominate the market.
